Kezia was a sensitive little girl. She was afraid of her father because of his rude and harsh behaviour. He seemed to be a short-tempered, dominating and overbearing person. He never interacted with Kezia politely or showed his love for her. He always kept ordering her to do one thing or the other. He even beat her for her mistakes. Moreover, Kezia was also afraid of him because he was a ‘big’ man with big hands.

The poet explores several themes in the poem. Firstly, he highlights the soothing and heeling power of nature. So many fancies go on revolving in his mind. He loves the pattering of soft rain.
