He is engaged in packing his travelling bag when silently an intruder enters with a revolver in his hand. The intruder asks him some questions to which Gerrard replies in a roundabout way. Last leaf is a story about a girl johnsy who is suffering from pneumonia and had lost all the strength to overcome in this competative world.sue is her roomate and was considerate towards her.one day sue came to know that johnsy had taken up that when the last leaf from the ivy creeper will fell down she will also die.as it is autumn all the leaves a falling down.sue takes the help of behrman who also lives in the same building ,an old man who is a painter and want to draw a masterpiece of his own .he agrees to sue and painted a leaf every day ti the window oneday after drawing a leaf in rain he died because of pneumonia but he has drawn his masterpiece that the leaf which have saved a life. The story at every stage teaches us to be good human beings and good children's too. Young children get attracted by little things around them and often press their parents with demands to buy those things. However, their real happiness lies in being with their parents. The story is based on the theme of close bond that children share with their parents. The lost child forgets all about his desires and yearns deeply for his parents when he fails to find them.

Everything else loses its significance and the only thing that matters is his wish to be reunited with his parents. We should learn the value of abstinence, that is, to restrain oneself from doing something which you like the most.
