The book that Tommy found from the attic was an old book which had letters printed on it. The book had yellow crinkled pages and according to Tommy, one had to throw that books after completion of reading. Whereas Tommy used to study from ebooks or a television screen which had moving words and according to him it was enough to carry thousands of books and did not have to throw them out after reading.

The boy was in a state of distress due to the fire and he was terribly missing his cat. He didn't fit in well in his new school and he felt so alone.so when he said " my cat was back and so was i", he meant that his old self was back now that the cat was back.His home was being rebuilt and he got friends in his new school and the only thing that was missing was his cat. Now that he had his cat he feels like he is true and complete again.
