Corporal Turnbull had come to give a lecture on hand-grenade. He'd come back from Dunkirk .Tremendously respected, he was personified by stating that he was not so tender without one's seeing it, that he could beat nails into him. Such comments allow it to be clear that Corporal Turnbull was a guy that is hardy and difficult. In addition, it may be noticed that Turnbull was a fastidious man as well as a no nonsense. Turnbull wasn't an individual who'd patronise folks who showed off their information. Turnbull was a guy who found and who believed in self-control and approached an individual decidedly. Turnbull was a guy that is self-possessed, to not be readily triggered. But though composed on surface, the person and his move played nicely. Quelch was taught a lesson by him for life when the time arrived.

In the beginning, Harris like the narrator, is a hypochondriac. He thinks that he had all the fits of giddiness. J writes that Harris could not see much romanticism on the world around him. He likes drinking but hates working hard. Moreover, he is always eager to put work on the back of others. He has a bad taste about clothing. He is very aggressive. He is a terrible singer but nothing can stop him singing if he is in the mood.

As the title suggests, Harris (also known as William Harris) is one of the three men in the boat. Readers receive commentary about Harris from J., who thinks that William Harris is completely dull and without any poetry or beauty to speak of in his person. J. compares William Harris to "Uncle Podger," who was known for carrying out elaborate procedures for simple projects. Although William Harris is a lot like George (in that they both schedule their activities around their next meal), Harris has much more pride in his musical ability, at least when it comes to comedy. Unfortunately, William Harris' memory does not serve him well in that he can never remember all of the words to his comic songs. William Harris' pride, then, doesn't match his ability. William Harris is known to J. mostly for the night of drunkenness (and rant about swans) when both George and J. go into the town alone. In fact, William Harris is always falling due to drunkenness (whether it be onto the grass, into the hamper, or into a bunch of swans). Of course, at the end of the story all three of the characters (including Harris) abandon the boat and board the train to London.
