It is necessary for a country to function properly. In democratic society people elect their representatives as the ruler. Constitution provide some rights and maintained the law and peace. In India constitution provide us the right to elect our own representative without any discrimination on any basis. So it is important for a democratic country to constituent properly in right way.

In terms of religions of India with significant populations, only Islam has religious laws in form of sharia which India allows as Muslim Personal Law. Secularism in India, thus, does not mean separation of religion from state. Instead, secularism in India means a state that is neutral to all religious groups.
