Some artists wanted to develop a national style of art because they had rejected the art of Ravi Varma as imitative and westernised. According to them, it was unsuitable for depicting the nation’s ancient myths and legends.
They felt the need for a genuine Indian style of painting to draw inspiration from non-western art traditions, and try to capture the real spiritual essence of the East.

On 12 March 1930, Gandhi started the Dandi march from Sabarmati Ashram towards the small coastal village of Dandi. He marched against the state monopoly in manufacturing and selling of salt. Gandhi chose salt because it was used in every Indian household, yet people were not allowed to make salt even for domestic use. Parallel salt marches were conducted all over the country. Gandhi after reaching dandi broke the salt laws by manufacturing salt. It led to the begining of the Civil Disobedience Movement.

As part of their effort to implement the Constitution, both state and central governments create specific schemes for implementation in tribal areas or in areas that have a high Dalit population. For example, the government provides for free or subsidised hostels for students of Dalit and Adivasi communities so that they can avail of education facilities that may not be available in their localities.
In addition to providing certain facilities, the government also operates through laws to ensure that concrete steps are taken to end inequity in the system. One such law/policy is the reservation policy that today is both significant and highly contentious.

Silicon Valley was named for the silicon of computer chips during the initial computer boom. IBM, Intel, Hewlett Packard all manufactured here. Part of why manufacturing moved offshore was that when the leaking underground tanks and worker illnesses came to light, it was easier to relocate the plants than make things right here.

Urbanization is a population shift from rural to urban areas, and the ways in which society adapts to the change. It predominantly results in the physical growth of urban areas, be it horizontal or vertical. The United Nations projected that half of the world's population would live in urban areas at the end of 2008.
