Dehydration is a condition of the body when the body does not have as much water as is required by it. Dehydration is a deficit of total body water, with an accompanying disruption of metabolic processes.

Algae can be cultivated to produce a variety of products - plastics, chemical feedstock, lubricants, fertilizers, and cosmetics.

Kelp, a strain of marine algae, is a rich source of iodine. Iodine is critical for thyroid health. Kelp is also a source of other important nutrients, including essential fatty acids, fiber, potassium, protein and sodium.

Spirulina and chlorella, two of the so-called super foods are derived from algae. Spirulina is an extraordinarily rich source of protein. Spirulina also delivers high levels of vitamin B₁₂. Chlorella is full of chlorophyll and provides the richest food source of the green pigment. It can used by the body to cleanse and heal the various organs.

Nutritionally similar to these two strains of blue-green algae is Alphanizomenon Flos Aquae (AFA) which has won attention as a powerful brain food.
