A chromosome is a single large macromolecule of DNA, and constitutes a physically organized form of DNA in a cell. It is a very long, continuous piece of DNA (a single DNA molecule), which contains many genes, regulatory elements and other intervening nucleotide sequences while A hormone is a chemical messenger from one cell (or group of cells) to another. All multicellular organisms produce hormones .The function of hormones is to serve as a signal to the target cells; the action of hormones is determined by the pattern of secretion and the signal transduction of the receiving tissue. The best-known animal hormones are those produced by endocrine glands of vertebrate animals, but hormones are produced by nearly every organ system and tissue type in a multicellular organism.

A human eye is roughly a spherical ball. It consists of the following parts:

  •  Sclera: It is the outer covering, a protective tough white layer called the sclera (white part of the eye).
  • Cornea: The front transparent part of the sclera is called cornea. Light enters the eye through the cornea.
  • Iris: A dark muscular tissue and ring like structure behind the cornea are known as the iris. The color of iris actually indicates the color of the eye. Ex: A person with brown eyes have the brown iris.
  •  Pupil: A small opening in the iris is known as a pupil. Its size is controlled by the help of iris. It controls the amount of light that enters the eye.
  •  Lens: Behind the pupil, there is a transparent structure called a lens. By the action of ciliary muscles, it changes its shape to focus light on the retina. It becomes thinner to focus distant objects and becomes thicker to focus nearby objects.
  •  Retina: It is a light sensitive layer that consists of numerous nerve cells. It converts images formed by the lens into electrical impulses. These electrical impulses are then transmitted to the brain through optic nerves.

There are two types of optic nerves:

  • Cones: Cones are the nerve cells that are more sensitive to bright light. They help in detailed central and color vision.
  • Rods: Rods are the optic nerve cells that are more sensitive to dim lights. They help in peripheral vision.

At the junction of optic nerve and retina, there are no sensory nerve cells. So no vision is possible at that point and is known as a blind spot.

This was a brief introduction about the human eye, its parts, and their functions.

When you look at an object the light from it enters your eyes through pupil the iris changes the size of the people depending on how bright the light is. The lens focusses the light onto the back of the eye: the retina. The retina is a mass of light sensitive neurones called photoreceptors which change light signals into electrical ones

Sclera-this is the outer Court of the eye covering the eyeball which is white and tough. It protects the interior of the eye from injuries due to accidents Cornea-the transparent front part of sclera is called cornea. It is clear like glas and has no blood vessels in it. Iris and pupil-behind the cornea, there is a dark muscular structure called Iris in it . The size of The Pupil is controlled by the Iris. The Iris is the part of eye which gives it its distinctive colour. When we say that a person has a green eye, it refers actually to the colour of the Iris. The Iris control the amount of light entering in our eyes. Lens and retina-Behind The Pupil of the eye, there is a lens which is thicker at the centre that is a convex lens. The lens focuses light at the back of the eye on a layer called retina. Retina is like a movie screen which shows the picture we see. Retina contains several Nerve cells. Sensations felt by the nerve cell are then transmittedto the Brain through the optic nerve. Optic nerve is like the cable that carries all the pictures to the brain. There are two kinds of cell in the retina- Cones - these are sensitive to bright light and sense colour. Rods- these are sensitive to dim light and sense black and white. Blindspot-at the junction of the optic nerve and the retina there are no sensory cells so no vision is possible at that spot .this is called the blind spot.
