A dam is a large wall or barrier that blocks or stops the flow of water, forming a reservoir or a lake. Most dams have a section called a spillway or weir over which, or through which, water flows, either sometimes or always. Three common types of concrete dams are: gravity, buttress and arch. Gravity: Concrete gravity dams are the most common form of concrete dam. The mass weight of concrete and friction resist the reservoir water pressure.

Non-metals are organic substances that do not conduct heat or electricity, and are structurally brittle (cannot be easily rolled, molded, extruded or pressed). Chemically, the non-metallic elements in the periodic table are hydrogen, carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, phosphorus, sulfur, and selenium. In modern periodic table there are 22 non-metals in which there are 11 gases, 1 liquid and 10 solid. Bromine occurs in the state of liquid and hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen, chlorine etc are found in gaseous forms. But carbon, sulphur, phosphorous, iodine etc solid non-metals.

Natural gas is a fossil fuel. Like other fossil fuels such as coal and oil, natural gas forms from the plants, animals, and microorganisms that lived millions of years ago. Like oil, natural gas is a product of decomposed organic matter, typically from ancient marine microorganisms, deposited over the past 550 million years. This organic material mixed with mud, silt, and sand on the sea floor, gradually becoming buried over time. In conventional natural gas deposits, the natural gas generally flows easily up through wells to the surface. In the United States and in a few other countries, natural gas is produced from shale and other types of sedimentary rock formations by forcing water, chemicals, and sand down a well under high pressure.

The area of contact in a blunt knife is more so it decreases the pressure applied but the area of contact in sharp knife is less so the pressure is more so it is easier to cut. The vegetable cutter edge is very sharp. The butter knife is not as sharp as the cutter. Cutting area is more than that of cutter. As area increases pressure decreases. Hence it is difficult to cut by a butter knife.

Electric charge is a basic property of electrons, protons and other subatomic particles. ... Things that are negatively charged and things that are positively charged pull on (attract) each other. This makes electrons and protons stick together to form atoms. All the objects are made up of tiny particles called atoms. All the atoms contain two types of electric charges inside them : positive electric charges called protons and negative electric charges called electrons. A positive charge repels another positive charge, but a positive charge attracts a negative charge.

Transplantation is done to cultivate paddy.Rice seedlings grown in a nursery are pulled and transplanted into puddled and leveled fields 15 to 40 days after seeding (DAS). Rice seedlings can either be transplanted manually or by machine. This is done in order to get higher yields and less weeding.

Irrigation is the application of controlled amounts of water to plants at needed intervals. Irrigation helps to grow agricultural crops and maintain landscapes in dry areas and during periods of less than average rainfall.

Due to the earth's rotation, stars appear to move. As the Earth rotates from west to east, the stars appear to rise in the East, moving across south to set in the west. The Sun will appear to move through the stars, making one complete circuit of the sky in 365 days. There are 88 constellations that make up the sky. We see constellations at different times of the year - spring, summer, fall, & winter. This occurs because the Earth is orbiting the Sun. In summer, we see the opposite (we see Scorpius at night and Orion is in the sky during the day). This is why you cannot see Orion or any one constellation all year long.

Friction is a force that holds back the movement of a sliding object. Friction is defined as the force that opposes the motion of a solid object over another. There are mainly four types of friction: static friction, sliding friction, rolling friction, and fluid friction. Friction is the force that resists motion when the surface of one object comes into contact with the surface of another. In a machine, friction reduces the mechanical advantage, or the ratio of output to input: an automobile, for instance, uses one-quarter of its energy on reducing friction.

Heterotrophic nutrition is that mode of nutrition in which an organism cannot make its own food from simple inorganic materials like carbon dioxide and water, and depends on other organisms for its food.
Example: All animals obtain food by heterotrophic nutrition.
Some of the important types of heterotrophic nutrition are:
(i) Saprophytic nutrition: It is that nutrition in which an organism obtains its food from dead organic matter of dead plants, dead animals and rotten bread.
Example: Fungi and many bacteria obtain food by saprophytic nutrition.
(ii) Parasitic nutrition: It is that nutrition in which an organism derives its food from the body of another living organism (called its host) without killing it.
Example: Plasmodium, round worms and Cuscuta obtain food by parasitic nutrition.
(iii) Holozoic nutrition: It is that nutrition in which an organism takes the complex organic food materials into its body by the process of ingestion; the ingested food is digested and then absorbed into the body cells of the organism.
Example: Human beings and Paramecium.

Isomers are molecules that have the same molecular formula, but have a different arrangement of the atoms in space. That excludes any different arrangements which are simply due to the molecule rotating as a whole, or rotating about particular bonds. Butane and isobutane have the same number of carbon (C) atoms and hydrogen (H) atoms, so their molecular formulas are the same. However, each one has a different structural formula, which shows how the atoms are arranged. So we can say that butane and isobutane are structural isomers.

In space, there is the light source, our sun. But there isn't anything else for the light to reflect off of in the space between and around the sun. That's why it's black. The blue color of the sky is a result of this scattering process. At night, when that part of Earth is facing away from the Sun, space looks black because there is no nearby bright source of light, like the Sun, to be scattered.
