Clouds can charge tall buildings and trees by induction. The buildings and trees thus acquire the opposite charge. If the build up of charge is very heavy, easily flow from cloud to tree or building. Small wooden, vinyl, or metal sheds offer little or no protection from lightning and should be avoided during thunderstorms. There are three main ways lightning enters homes and buildings: a direct strike, through wires or pipes that extend outside the structure and into the ground. As a result, a very heavy charge passes through the air in short time because of the electric discharge and huge amount of energy releases in the form of heat, light and sound. This process is called lightning. When lightning strikes a building or tree, it catches fire because of the huge amount of energy released.

- Earthquakes are caused by sudden tectonic movements in the Earth’s crust. The main cause is that when tectonic plates, one rides over the other, causing orogeny collide (mountain building), earthquakes. The largest fault surfaces on Earth are formed due to boundaries between moving plates.
- The stress increases when they stick, relative motion between the plates. This continues until the stress rises and breaks, suddenly allowing sliding over the locked portion of the fault, releasing the stored energy as shock waves. Such faults are San Andreas fault in San Francisco, Rift valley in Africa etc.

- Artificial jewelry, usually made of less expensive metals is often plated with a thin layer of a precious metal like gold and silver to make it more lustrous, appealing but cheaper.
- Many industrial applications use electroplating to create a protective barrier on a metal substrate. The protective barrier in this case prevents tarnishing and gives a glossy appearance. Eg: Chromium plating is done on car spare parts, taps, wheel rims etc. Chromium is very expensive and the whole part cannot be made of chromium. So, it is coated with chromium to give it a shiny appearance.
- inning (electroplating of tin) is a very cost-effective electroplating solution. Tin is relatively cheaper and is used for electroplating electronic components, hardware products, fasteners, screws, nuts, bolts and food cans.
- Zinc electroplating offers excellent adhesion and resistance to corrosion. So, it is used to electroplate automobile parts and body, transmission components, defense carriers and tanks.

By Z=3, we mean that the Atomic number (Z) of element is 3.
It's electronic configuration is 2,1.
Hence, the valency of this element is 1 since outermost shell has only one electron.
Therefore the element with Z=3 is Lithium.
