Phloem tissue:

It is a vascular tissue which transports the food materials made in the leaves to the other parts of the plant. Phloem is made up of many cells joined end to end to form long tubes. The cells of the phloem are sieve tubes and companion cell. The transport of food from the leaves to other parts of the plant is called translocation. Phloem tissue transports the food from the leaves to the other parts of the plant. The movement of food in phloem takes place by utilising energy.

Air pollutants can poison wildlife through the disruption of endocrine function, organ injury, increased vulnerability to stresses and diseases, lower reproductive success, and possible death. There is now great concern that air pollutants (especially sulfur dioxide, ozone, and oxides of nitrogen) can alter the physiological processes of plants, thereby affecting patterns of growth. Air pollutants cause damage to leaf cuticles and affect stomatal conductance.

Blue-green algae, also known scientifically as Cyanobacteria, are a group of photosynthetic bacteria. These accumulations are frequently referred to as 'blooms'. Blue-green algae blooms are likely to occur more often when the water is warm and enriched with nutrients like phosphorus or nitrogen. Blue green algae fix the atmospheric nitrogen which increase the amount of nitrogen in soil hence fertility. bacteria digest the waste material which act as manure.

Friction cannot be reduced to perfect 0, if two surfaces are touching each other with some pressure.   We could make that very small by using suitable methods.    Without applying normal pressure, we cannot do any useful work in the world.

At microscopic levels, if we look at the surfaces of objects or floor or ice, we find that  there are ups and downs.  When two surfaces having small ups and downs rub against each other  with some force normal to both surfaces,  there is bound to be some friction ie., resistance force.

Also, there are intermolecular forces between the molecules of one surface and those of the other surface.  That contributes to friction.

There are many hormones other than *** hormones like growth hormone, thyroxine, insulin and adrenaline. The important endocrine glands and their functions are:

  1. Pituitary gland: Pituitary gland is attached to the base of the brain and secretes a number of hormones. One of the hormones secreted by pituitary gland is growth hormone. A person having the deficiency of growth hormone in childhood remains very short or becomes dwarf. A person having too much growth hormone becomes very tall or a giant. Pituitary gland is called the master gland of the body because it controls the functioning of other endocrine glands.
  2. Thyroid gland: Thyroid is a large endocrine gland in the neck. It is attached to the wind pipe and makes a hormone called thyroxine. Thyroxine controls the rate of metabolism of the body. The deficiency of thyroxine hormone causes a disease called goitre. The main symptom of goitre disease is that the neck of the person suffering from this disease appears swollen. People are advised to use iodised salt for cooking food to prevent goitre.
  3. Pancreas: Pancreas is located just below the stomach. It secretes a hormone called insulin. The function of insulin is to lower the blood sugar level. Deficiency of insulin in the body causes a disease called diabetes.
  4. Adrenal gland: There are two adrenal glands located on the top of the kidneys. The adrenal glands produces adrenaline hormone which prepares our body to function at maximum efficiency during emergency situations like anger, fear, danger, excitement, etc. The adrenal glands also secrete hormone called aldosterone which maintains the correct salt balance in the blood.

Plasmodium (malarial parasite) requires two hosts – human and mosquitoes to complete its life cycle. Plasmodium enters the human body as sporozoites (infectious form) through the bite of infected female Anopheles mosquito. The parasites initially multiply within the liver cells and then attack the red blood cells (RBCs) resulting in their rupture. The rupture of RBCs leads to release of a toxic substance, haemozoin, which is responsible for the chill and high fever recurring every three to four days. When a female Anopheles mosquito bites an infected person, these parasites enter the mosquito’s body and undergo further development. The parasites multiply within the mosquito’s body to form sporozoites that are stored in their salivary glands. When these mosquitoes bite a human, the sporozoites are introduced into his/her body, thereby initiating the another cycle.

No, this stateent is not true, because respiration means the use of oxygen and rrelease of carbon dioxide. this occurs in unicelllular organisms by the diffusion of both gases across the cell membrane or plasma membrane
thhe difference is that most higher multicellular organisms posses a complex systvem for respiration and breathing, while unicellular and simple multiclllular organisms exchange the gases through their body wall

The various traditional method of irrigation are

1)Moat(pulley system)

2)Chain pump

3)Dhekli

4)Rahat(lever system)

Traditional method of irrigation are cheaper but less efficient.Pumps are commonly used for lifting water. These pumps run by electricity, diesel, biogas or solar energy. When a pump is used to draw out water from a narrow well,it is called tube-well.They are used increasingly for lifting underground water to be used for irrigation in agriculture.

Modern methods of irrigation

The two main modern methods of irrigation are:
1) Sprinkler system : A main pipeline is laid in the field.Perpendicular pipes having rotating nozzles at the top are joined to the main pipelines at regular intervals. When water from a tube-well is allowed to flow through the main pipelines under pressure with the help of a pump,it escapes from the rotating nozzles. This water gets sprinkled on the crop plants as if it is raining.
