Sodium is stored in kerosene.
Because of sodium is a highly reactive and explosive metal ,it can't be left in open because it may react with the moisture in air and explode like a bomb.kerosene does not allow the moisture to penetrate through it .That's why sodium is stored in kerosene.

An earthquake is the shaking of the surface of Earth due to the sudden release of energy in the Earth’s crust, as a result, seismic waves (also known as S waves)are created. The seismic activities in an area determine the type and intensity of the earthquake.
Earthquakes are caused due to sudden tectonic movements in the earth’s crust. When the tectonic plates slide over one another, there is a cause of orogeny which results in earthquakes and volcanoes. These disturbances cause vibrations which spread in all the directions. As there is a relative motion of these plates, there is stress built up, which breaks by releasing the stored energy known as shock waves.

When certain objects are rubbed against another object, electrons may get transferred from one object to another. If an object loses some electron, it is left with surplus number of protons. Thus, this object becomes positively charged. If an object gains electrons, it now has surplus number of electrons. Thus, this object becomes negatively charged.

Microorganisms are useful in our lives in the following ways :
(i) Bacteria cause the decay of dead plants and animals.
(ii) Nitrogen fixing bacteria convert the atmospheric nitrogen into nitrates.
(iii) Bacteria are used in the production of vinegar, curd, cheese, etc.
(iv) Bacteria are used in sewage disposal plants.

Sound is produced when something vibrates. The vibrating body causes the medium (water, air, etc.) around it to vibrate. Vibrations in the air are called travelling longitudinal waves, which we can hear. Sound waves consist of areas of high and low pressure called compressions and rarefactions, respectively.

Asexual reproduction is a mode of reproduction in which only one parent is involved to reproduce offspring. In asexual reproduction, the offsprings produced are exact copies of their parents.
It is generally observed in very small sized organisms. Binary fission, budding, fragmentation, etc. are the examples of asexual reproduction.
- Budding: In this mode, a part of the organism starts bulging out. Slowly it grows and develops into a separate individual. Examples: Hydra, yeast.
- Binary Fission: It is a type of asexual reproduction in which a single cell divides into two halves. Organisms that reproduce through binary fission are bacteria and Amoeba.

During adolescence in males, the thyroid cartilage of the larynx protrudes forward forming a bulged structure in the throat region. This structure is called as Adam’s apple. This is one of the most remarkable secondary sexual characteristic feature in men. The larger larynx in males is the reason for deeper voice in men than in women.

Following are the important function of the ear:
Hearing
The mechanism of hearing involves the following steps:
- The sound waves pass through the auditory canal and reach the eardrum.
- The vibrations produced pass through the tympanic membrane to the tympanic cavity.
- The ear ossicles in the tympanic cavity receive the vibrations and the stapes pushes the oval window in and out.
- This action is passed on to the organ of corti, the receptor of hearing, that contains tiny hair cells that translate the vibrations into electrical impulse that are transmitted to the brain by sensory nerves.
Balance
The eustachian tube and the vestibular complex are the important parts of the ear responsible for balance.
- The eustachian tube equalizes the air pressure in the middle ear and maintains the balance.
- The vestibular complex contains receptors that maintain body balance.

Life on Earth uses only two types of energy for metabolism: sunlight and redox chemistry. One or the other has to be present, and if you're in the habitable zone of a star, you at least have enough light to support photosynthesis. So you have the right temperature, water, and sunlight. The majority of the energy is reabsorbed by the greenhouse gases such as methane, nitrous oxide, ozone, carbon dioxide and water vapor. These gases constantly emit the sun's energy back into the atmosphere and keep the earth a habitable temperature.

Fossil fuels are buried flammable geologic deposits of organic substances such as dead plants, and animals that got deposited under several thousand feet of silt. These deposits decayed with the passage of time and got converted to natural gas, coal, and petroleum due to the extreme heat and pressure inside the earth’s crust. They are also known as non-renewable sources of energy as it takes a very long time for it to replenish.
