The camel gets a hump because when the Camel says “humph” to the Djinn, the Djinn is mad and says to the Camel, “I shouldn't say that again if I were you,” but he does anyway. The Djinn then uses his magic to give the Camel a hump (humph) on his back. When the animals began to work for Man, the Camel lived in a desert because he was idle and refused to help. ... The Djinn made a magic that puffed up the Camels back into a humph (or hump) and condemned him to work for three days without eating, living on his hump instead, to make up for the days he had missed.

Animals that live in deserts include lizards, geckos, toads, jackrabbits, camels, snakes, spiders and meerkats. Nocturnal desert animals keep cool by being active at night, whereas some other desert animals get away from the sun's heat by digging underground burrows. Other common adaptations seen in desert animals include big ears, light-colored coats, humps to store fat, and adaptations that help conserve water.
