Dear Diary
Two days back I went trekking on the nearby hills with my classmates. We carried some food and drink in our backpacks. It was a pleasant day. The sun was mild and a pleasant breeze was blowing.
All of us were very excited as it was our first trekking trip. Our seniors had told us that it was very enjoyable. We divided ourselves into small groups and started climbing from different points. We decided to meet at one point on top. Some boys suggested that we could compete and see which group reaches the destination first.
We started climbing. Some boys were telling jokes, some were enjoying the weather and some were picking up things, like a unique shaped stone or flower on the way to keep as a remembrance. We were calling out to other groups and laughing. Each group was in a hurry to reach the destination first.
It was great fun. At last we all reached almost at the same time. So we all clapped for each other. We sat down for some time and ate the snacks. The scenery was beautiful. We clicked photographs.
Coming down was even more fun because there was less resistance and we could run fast. We enjoyed the trekking expedition and reached home in the evening.

A familiar grouping of words which appears together because of their habitual use and thus creating the same meaning is called collocation. Suppose, when we say heavy rain instead of big or strong rain, it conveys the meaning that it is raining heavily.
Although in the above example strong rain or the big rain conveys the same meaning. In fact, both of them are also grammatically correct. But, the use of big rain or strong rain will sound strange. Thus, we use heavy rain to sound natural and a lot better English.
