Auto = self,  Trophic = nutrition. The literal meaning of this term is self-nutrition. Autotrophic nutrition is a process where the organism prepares their food from the simple inorganic materials like water, mineral salts and carbon dioxide in the presence of sunlight. All the green plants possess an autotrophic mode of nutrition.

Now a days the technology has became very much advanced. Due to the development of satellites and radars a cyclone alert or cyclone watch is issued 48 hours in advance of any expected storm and a Cyclone warning is issued 24 hrs in advance. This gives sufficient time to people to prepare and evacuate. The message is broadcast every hour or half hour when a cyclone is nearer the coast. Several national and international organisations cooperate to monitor the cyclone-related disasters.

The tropical regions are the regions of the Earth near the equator and between the Tropic of Cancer in the northern hemisphere and the Tropic of Capricorn in the southern hemisphere. This tropical region is also referred to as the tropical zone or the torrid zone. The word Tropical specifically means places near the equator. It is also sometimes used in a general sense for a tropical climate, a climate that is warm to hot and moist year-round.

Deciduous teeth, otherwise known as milk teeth, baby teeth, temporary teeth and now more commonly primary teeth, are the first set of teeth in the growth development of humans and other diphyodont mammals. They develop during the embryonic stage of development and erupt—that is, they become visible in the mouth—during infancy. They are usually lost and replaced by permanent teeth, but in the absence of permanent replacements, they can remain functional for many years.

Pseudopods are temporary cytoplasmic projections of the cell membrane in certain unicellular protists such as amoeba. Pseudopods, also called pseudopodia (singular: pseudopodium), literally means false foot. That is because they are associated with locomotion.

Amoeba is a single cell organism found in pond water. Amoeba has a cell membrane ,a rounded ,dense nucleus and many small bubble like vacuoles in its cytoplasm. Amoeba constantly changes its shape and position. It pushes out one or more finger like projections called pseudopodia or false feet for movement and capture of food. Amoeba feeds on some microscopic organisms . When it senses food it pushes out pseudopodia around the food particle and engulfs it . The food becomes trapped in a food vacuoles. Digestive juices are secreted into the food vacuole . They act on the food vacuole . They act on the food and break it down into simpler substances . Gradually the digested food is absorbed . The absorbed substances are used for growth, maintenance and multiplication. The undigested residue of the food is expelled outside by the vacuole.

  • Amoeba is omnivorous organism. It feeds on plants, microorganisms, smaller organisms etc. Nutrition is holozoic.
  • Amoeba does not possess any mouth. It can ingest through any place on the surface of cell membrane.
  • Amoeba has a sense of ability to accept food molecules and reject non-food particles.
  • Amoeba extends its pseudopodia when the food is found.
  • Pseudopodium just wraps around the food molecule and forms a food vacuole around it.
  • An amoeba engulfs its prey along with a droplet of water in the food vacuole inside the cytoplasm.
  • Food vacuoles circulate in the cytoplasm by streaming movements.
  • The prey can be killed and digested with the help of the digestive enzymes secreted by the food vacuole.
  • Digestion is intracellular in amoeba.
  • The diffusible substances resulting from the process of digestion are uilised in synthesisng more protoplasm. They are also stored as reserved food. They are also used to generate energy by the process of respiration.
  • The undigested food is sent out through an opening appearing on the vacuole by changing the shape of the body. This process is called as egestion.

The shell is a hard protective surface. When it is present it does not allow water to seep inside the egg. When this shell is removed water can easily move inside because the concentration of water is less inside the egg than outside, and thus causes swelling of the egg.

Matter expands on heating and contracts on cooling. The expansion of matter on heating is called thermal expansion. There are some applications of thermal expansion in day-to-day life.
1) Blacksmiths use the principle of expansion on heating and contraction on cooling, to fix the iron rim onto the wooden wheel of a bullock cart. The radius of the iron rim is slightly less than that of the wooden wheel. The iron rim is heated to red hot, so that it expands and its radius increases. It is then slipped over the wooden wheel and cooled by pouring water. The iron rim contracts on cooling and gets tightly fixed to the wooden wheel.
2) Gap in Railway Tracks: While laying railway tracks, a small gap is left between adjacent rails. This is because the iron rails expand in summer, and the gap allows space for the expansion.
