Various factors responsible for the depletion of water table are:
(i) Increased population: Demand of water has been increased by the increased population. As the number of humans increase, the consumption of water also increases.
(ii) Increasing industries: All industries need water. As the number of human population increase, the number of industries are also increased which definitely increases the consumption of water.
(iii) Lack of water conservation techniques: Main source of water on earth and for the underground water is rain. The water of the rain, if conserved can increase the ground water level. But this is not done due to lack of water conservative techniques.
(iv) Agricultural activities: India is a country which depends on agriculture. The land used for cultivation has increased. So, the consumption of water for agriculture has increased. Irregular rainfall has increased the consumption of groundwater. This has increased the depletion of groundwater.

The biological process in which food is utilized to produce energy is called respiration. Respiration is necessary for survival of the living beings. A living being cannot survive even for a few seconds, without respiration. During respiration, it is mainly the carbohydrate which is oxidized to produce energy. This can be shown by following equation:
Carbohydrate + Oxygen → Carbon dioxide + Water + Energy
C6H12O6 + 6O2 → 6CO2 + 6H2 + Energy

- Wastewater Treatment Plant:
The process of wastewater treatment includes the following steps:
- Screening: This is the first step in which wastewater is passed through bar screens to remove large objects like rags, wood pieces, sticks, stones, etc.
- Grit and sand removal tanks: Water is then allowed to go into a grit and sand removal tank. This allows the grit, sand, stones and heavy objects to settle at the bottom.
- Sedimentation tanks: Water is now allowed to pass through large tanks called sedimentation tanks. These tanks are large enough so that organic solid matter like faeces sinks slowly to the bottom and materials like grease and oil float at the surface and skimmed off.
- Aeration: The clarified water is passed into an aeration tank which contains aerobic bacteria. This bacteria rapidly grows and consume organic matter like human and animal wastes and convert it into carbon dioxide.

Exothermic reactions: Those reactions in which energy is released in the form of heat are called exothermic reactions.
Examples –
(1) All combustion reactions e.g.
CH4 + 2O2 —> CO2 + 2H2O + Heat
(2) Thermite reactions e.g.
2Al + Fe2O3 —> 2Fe + Al2O3 + Heat
Combinations are generally exothermic in nature. The decomposition of organic matters into compost is an example of exothermic reaction.
