When the oxides react with water they form compounds containing hydrogen as well as oxygen and the other element. In general, if that other element is a metal the compound is basic. On the other hand, if that other element is a nonmetal, the compound is generally acidic.

A simple pendulum consists of a small metal ball (called bob) suspended by a long thread from a rigid support, such that the bob is free to swing back and forth.
The time period of a simple pendulum is the time taken by the pendulum bob to make one complete oscillation.

Excretion in plants occurs through various means -

1.  Excess water is removed through stomata by transpiration which is the process of removal or evaporation of water.

2.  Plants also get rid of oxygen, a by - product in the process of photosynthesis and carbon dioxide which is the by - product formed during respiration. The plants get rid of these by stomata present in their leaves.

3. Some of the wastes stored in the leaves are removed by the detachment of the leaves itself from  the tree.

4. Waste are also stored in the cellular vacuoles which do not affect the functioning of cytoplasm because of its outer membrane known as tonoplast.

Presence of oxygen from air and water as water vapour from moist air is essential for rusti

Jon Michel 6 years, 2 months ago

The presence of water and oxygen is essential for the rusting of iron. Impurities in the iron, the presence of water vapor, acids, salts and carbon dioxide hastens rusting. Pure iron does not rust in dry and carbon dioxide free air.

Gaurav Seth 6 years, 2 months ago

Rusting of iron (Fe) is caused by oxidation of Fe to form Fe2O3.

The two essential conditions are:

a) Presence of Oxygen

b) Presence of Water whose pH is in acidic range.

Nocturnal desert animals keep cool by being active at night, whereas some other desert animals get away from the sun's heat by digging underground burrows. Other common adaptations seen in desert animals include big ears, light-colored coats, humps to store fat, and adaptations that help conserve water.

Cellular respiration is a set of metabolic reactions and processes that take place in the cells of organisms to convert biochemical energy from nutrients into adenosine triphosphate (ATP), and then release waste products. Respiration is one of the key ways a cell releases chemical energy to fuel cellular activity.

Yogita Ingle 6 years, 2 months ago

Respiration happens inside the cells. As respiration happens inside the cell, it is also called cellular respiration. A cell organelle; called mitochondria; is the site of cellular respiration.

Rust is another name for iron oxide, which occurs when iron or an alloy that contains iron, like steel, is exposed to oxygen and moisture for a long period of time. Over time, the oxygen combines with the metal at an atomic level, forming a new compound called an oxide and weakening the bonds of the metal itself

Though some fish can breathe on land taking oxygen from air, most of the fish, when taken out of water, suffocate and die. This is because gill arches of fish collapse, when taken out of water, leaving the blood vessels no longer exposed to oxygen in air

Yogita Ingle 6 years, 2 months ago

Fishes respire with the help of their gills. Gills are richly supplied with blood capillaries and can readily absorb the oxygen dissolved in water. The water contains some dissolved oxygen in it. When the water enters the fish through its mouth, the dissolved oxygen is taken inside and carbon dioxide is given out through the gills. In this way, the fishes breathe in water. When fishes are taken out of water, the supply of oxygen to the fishes is cut as the fishes cannot absorb and breathe using the oxygen present in the atmosphere. Hence, they die after some time.

We can check that soil is acid basic or salt by mixing little amount of water with soil in a beaker. After that we have to put an universal indicator in the beaker. And we can check it's nature by just matching obtained colour with universal chart. They usually treat with calcium chalk or slaked lime when the soil becomes too acidic to neutrilize it.

The biggest difference is particle size. Of all types of soil, sand has the largest particle size, and clay has the smallest. One grain of sand in hundreds of times the size of a clay particle. Because of this difference, sand drains water fast, and clay retains water very well (too well usually).

Jon Michel 6 years, 2 months ago

Rusting of iron occurs only if iron comes in contact with moist air. In coastal areas, air contains high percentage of moisture because of sea or ocean, while in deserts air is dry and hot. As the percentage of moisture in air is more in coastal area compared to desert, rusting becomes faster.
