If garbage is not removed from our homes and surroundings regularly, our home and surrounding will become dirty. Some of the garbage (like left-over food) will rot giving off foul smell. The rotting garbage will become a breeding ground for disease -causing organisms such as cockroaches, flies and mosquitoes.

when four numbers say A,B,C,D are in similar quantities such that A:B= C:D then they are said to be in proportion.
when A,B,C are in continued proportion then B is said to be the mean proportional.
let us take A=9 and C=16 and B as X. then
A:X : : X:C
9:X : : X:16
{x}^{2} = 9 \times 16x2=9×16
{x}^{2} = 144x2=144
Therefore, x = 12.
So, the mean proportional of 9 and 16 is 12.

The objects which give out their own light are called luminous objects. Examples – sun, stars, burning candle, lighted torch, etc. A luminous object can be seen because the light given out by it enters our eyes.
The objects which do not give out their own light are called non-luminous objects. Examples – table, chair, trees, flower-pot, a pencil, a car, a wall, card board, a wire mesh, etc. The non-luminous objects can be seen because they reflect light into our eyes.

Cotton ginning is the process of separating the cotton fibres from the cotton seeds. Perfect ginning operation would be performed if the separation of fibers from seed was effected without the slightest injury to either seeds or to the fiber. A cotton gin is a machine that quickly and easily separates the cotton fibers from the seeds, a job previously done by hand. These seeds are either used again to grow more cotton or, if badly damaged, are disposed of. It uses a combination of a wire screen and small wire hooks to pull the cotton through the screen, while brushes continuously remove the loose cotton lint to prevent jams. The term "gin" is an abbreviation for engine, and means "machine".
