The Pole Star is the star that is known to retain its position in the sky always. We can locate the position of the Pole Star with the help of the constellation Saptarishi. If an imaginary line is drawn joining the "pointer stars" of the Saptarishi and extended further, it will point to the Pole Star.

A new kite looks bright on the blue sky. It takes a plunge and bends. It makes a cracking sound with its tail. When a strong wind blows, it rides over it as does a ship on a tidal wave

India has a wide geographical diversity. There are five main physical divisions – the Great Mountain Wall of the North, the Indo – Gangetic Plains, the Desert Regions of the west, the Coastal Plains and the Islands (Andaman, Nicobar and Lakshadweep). This varied topography influenced the climate and in turn the diet, dress, customs ans culture of the people. For example, people living in mountains and forest regions are more physically fit and live a challenging and an adventurous life than people living on plains.

Dal is often translated as “lentils” but actually refers to a split version of a number of lentils, peas, chickpeas (chana), kidney beans and so on. If a pulse is split into half, it is a dal. For example, split mung beans are mung dal. A stew or soup made with any kind of pulses, whole or split, is known as dal. Substances combined to make a particular dish are called ingredients. The ingredients of making dal are raw dal, water, salt and other spices.
