About 1.9 million years ago, Homo erectus evolved. This human ancestor not only walked fully upright, but had much larger brains than Homo habilis: nearly twice as large, on average. Homo erectus became the first direct human ancestor to leave Africa, and the first to display evidence of using fire.
Evolution involves the gradual changes from simple to more complex forms. Humans are believed to have developed from simpler forms.
Evolution is the result of the interaction between the following five processes:
- Mutation.
- Genetic Recombination.
- Chromosomal Abnormalities.
- Natural Selection.
- Reproductive isolation.

Define x:
Let one part be x
The other part is 40 - x
Solve x:
1/4 x = 3/8 (40 - x)
1/4 x = 15 - 3/8 x
1/4 x + 3/8 x = 15
5/8 x = 15
x = 15 ÷ 5/8
x = 24
Find the two parts:
One part = x = 24
The other part = 40 - x = 40 - 24 = 16
Answer: One part is 24 and the other part is 16
