(i) The Indian Desert: The Indian Desert, popularly known as the That desert, lies towards the western margins of the Aravali Hills. It is an undulating sandy plain covered with sand dunes. This region receives very low rainfall below 150 mm per year. It has arid climate with low vegetation cover. Streams appear during the rainy season. Soon after the rainy season they disappear into the sand. Luni is the only large river in this region. Crescent shaped dunes popularly known as Barchans are an important feature of the Indian Desert.
ii) The Island Groups of India: India has two island groups - the Lakshadweep Islands and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The Lakshadweep Islands group lies close to the Malabar coast of Kerala. This group of islands is composed of small coral islands. Earlier they were known as Laccadive, Minicoy and Amindive. In 1973, these were named as Lakshadweep. It covers small area of 32 sq km. Kavaratti Island is the administrative headquarters of Lakshadweep. The Andaman and Nicobar Islands are located in the Bay of Bengal. They are bigger in size and are more numerous and scattered. The entire group of islands is divided into two broad categories - the Andaman in the north and the Nicobar in the south. These island groups are of great strategic importance for the country. They lie close to equator and experience equatorial climate and has thick forest cover.

The three parallel ranges of the Himalayas are:
- Himadri (Great or Inner Himalayas)
- It is the most continuous range. The northernmost range is called the Himadri. It consists of loftiest peaks with an average height of 6,000 metres. It contains all the prominent peaks. It remains snow covered throughout the year, resulting into the formation of glaciers and some perennial rivers.
- Himachal (Lesser Himalayas)
- It lies to the south of Himadri and forms the most rugged mountain system. The ranges are mainly composed of highly compressed and altered rocks. Average height is between 3,700 to 4,500 metres. Some famous ranges are the Pir Panjal range, Dhaula Dhar and Mahabharat ranges. It has some famous valleys like Kullu, Kangra and Kashmir. They are known for their hill stations. The average width is 50 Km.
- Shiwaliks (Outer Himalayas)
- This is the outermost range of the Himalayas. Its height varies between 900 and 1,100 metres. These ranges are composed of unconsolidated rock material, so these ranges are prone to earthquakes and landslides. These longitudinal valleys lying between lesser Himalayas and Shiwaliks are called ‘Duns’ like Dehra Dun, Kotli Dun and Patlin Dun, etc.

Microgravity is the condition in which people or objects appear to be weightless. The effects of microgravity can be seen when astronauts and objects float in space. ... "Micro-" means "very small," so microgravity refers to the condition where gravity seems to be very small. "The approach uses plants to scrub carbon dioxide, while providing food and oxygen." The prototype involves an inflatable, deployable greenhouse to support plant and crop production for nutrition, air revitalization, water recycling and waste recycling. The process is called a bioregenerative life support system.

1. What is the disadvantage in comparing line segments by mere observation?
Solutions:
By mere observation we can’t compare the line segments with slight difference in their length. We can’t say which line segment is of greater length. Hence, the chances of errors due to improper viewing are more.
2. Why is it better to use a divider than a ruler, while measuring the length of a line segment?
Solutions:
While using a ruler, chances of error occur due to thickness of the ruler and angular viewing. Hence, using divider accurate measurement is possible.

LCM of 18, 24 and 32:
18 = 2 x 3 x 3
24 = 2 x 2 x 2 x 3
32 = 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2
LCM = 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 3 x 3 = 288
The smallest four digit number that is divisible by 288:
288 x 3 = 864
288 x 4 = 1152
Since 288 is divisible by 18, 24 and 32, 1152 is also divisible by all these numbers.
Therefore, 1152 is the smallest four digit number divisible by 18, 24 and 32.

Divisibility Rule of 2
If a number is even or a number whose last digit is an even number i.e. 2,4,6,8 including 0, it is always completely divisible by 2.
Example: 508 is an even number and is divisible by 2 but 509 is not an even number, hence it is not divisible by 2. Procedure to check whether 508 is divisible by 2 or not is as follows:
- Consider the number 508
- Just take the last digit 8 and divide it by 2
- If the last digit 8 is divisible by 2 then the number 508 is also divisible by 2.
Divisibility Rules for 3
Divisibility rule for 3 states that a number is completely divisible by 3 if the sum of its digits is divisible by 3.
Consider a number, 308. To check whether 308 is divisible by 3 or not, take sum of the digits (i.e. 3+0+8= 11). Now check whether the sum is divisible by 3 or not. If the sum is a multiple of 3, then the original number is also divisible by 3. Here, since 11 is not divisible by 3, 308 is also not divisible by 3.
Similarly, 516 is divisible by 3 completely as the sum of its digits i.e. 5+1+6=12, is a multiple of 3.
Divisibility Rule of 4
If the last two digits of a number are divisible by 4, then that number is a multiple of 4 and is divisible by 4 completely.
Example: Take the number 2308. Consider the last two digits i.e. 08. As 08 is divisible by 4, the original number 2308 is also divisible by 4.
Divisibility Rule of 5
Numbers, which last with digits, 0 or 5 are always divisible by 5.
Example: 10, 10000, 10000005, 595, 396524850, etc.

Medicines are packed in boxes. One box weighs 4kg 500g.
We need to find many the number of boxes that can be loaded in a can that cannot carry beyond 800kg.
Solution:
The weight of one box = 4 kg 500 g = 4 × 1000 g + 500 g = 4500 g { As we know that 1kg = 1000g}
Maximum load can be loaded in can = 800 kg = 800 × 1000 g = 800000 g
Hence total weight=Maximum load can be loaded in can =800000 g
Number of boxes = Total weight / Weight of each box
Number of boxes = 800000/4500 = 177
Number of boxes = 177
Therefore, 177 boxes can be loaded in a can that cannot carry beyond 800kg.

1) 12,904 +2,888
Rounding off 12,904 to the nearest thousands we get, 13,000
And rounding off 2,888 to the nearest thousands we get, 3000
Therefore, 13,000 + 3,000 = 16, 000
Therefore, estimate of 12, 904 + 2,888 is equal to 16,000 according to the general rule.
2)28,292 – 21,496
Rounding off 28,292 to the nearest thousands we get, 28,000
And rounding off 21,496 to the nearest thousands we get, 21,000
Therefore, 28,000 - 21,000 = 7,000
Therefore, estimate of 28,292 - 21,496 is equal to 7,000 according to the general rule.
3)9250 × 29
Rounding off 9250 to the nearest thousands, we get 9000
And, rounding off 29 to the nearest tens, we get 30
Therefore, 9000 x 30 = 2,70,000
It means that estimate of 9250 × 29 is equal to 2,70,000 using general rule.
