With the Forty-second Amendment of the Constitution of India enacted in 1976, the Preamble to the Constitution asserted that India is a secular nation. The Indian Constitution has allowed extensive interference of the state in religious affairs. ... India does partially separate religion and state.

Gaurav Seth 4 years, 11 months ago

In a secular nation, people have the freedom to choose, practice and propagate their religion. The country does not have any official religion and neither the government nor any private institution discriminates among the people on the basis of religion.

India is a secular nation as it has no state religion. The government neither encourages nor discourages any religion. People are free to choose and practice their religion. The Government of India treats people of all religions with equal respect.

In chapter 2 discussion is mainly on rural people. But in this chapter, the discussion is mainly on urban people. In both the cases; farmers and herders did the same type of work. But their group was much bigger in case of the Harappan cities. Their work could have been more organized like using wooden tools, irrigation, storage of grains, compared to what it was in the earlier societies. Farmers and herders (in previous chapter) mainly produced for their own use. But in case of the Harappan cities; the farmers and herders sold their surplus production to crafts person, scribes and rulers living in cities.

Meghna Thapar 4 years, 11 months ago

Yes, the life of farmers and herders who supplied food to the Harappan cities was different from that of the farmers and hearders we read about in chapter 2 because: Farmers who supplied food to the Harappan cities lived a settled life as they were engaged in farming activities. Harappans grew wheat, barley, pulses, peas, rice, sesame, linseed, and mustard. They also developed some new tools known as plough and was used to dig earth for planting the seeds and turning the soil. A method of irrigation was used due to less rainfall.

People built one or two story houses on either side of the roads with rooms built around a courtyard. The Harappan city had a well-planned drainage system where every house had a drain connected to the street drains which further were connected to the bigger drains. The drains were covered with stone slabs and laid in straight lines with inspection holes for cleanup.

Stereotype is a negative quality. It does not allow us to think or view a person as a unique individual. We ignore all his good qualities. We don't think about that individual beyond the set image otherwise he/she is good.
