People participate by taking an interest in the working of the government and by criticising it when required. In August 2005, when a particular government increased the money people had to pay for electricity, people expressed their disapproval very sharply. They took out rallies and also organised a signature campaign. The government tried to explain and defend its decision but finally listened to the people's opinion and withdrew the increase. The government had to change its decision because it is responsible to the people.

There are many ways in which people express their views and make governments understand what actions they should take. These include dharnas, rallies, strikes, signature campaigns etc. Things that are unfair and unjust are also brought forward. Newspapers, magazines and TV also play a role in discussing government issues and responsibilities

Ministers have overestimated the number of people who will get jobs as a result of attendance on the work programme, according to the National Audit Office (NAO).

It finds that some contractors implementing the scheme may get into serious financial difficulty, and that no alternatives to the programme were considered before it was implemented.

The work programme has so far spent £63m terminating existing welfare-to-work contracts, the report discloses. Two former contractors have not yet agreed settlements.

Different festivals which are celebrated in my locality are; Holi, Diwali, Eid, Christmas, Rath Yatra, Chhath, Guru Parb, etc. Holi and Diwali are Hindu festivals which are celebrated all over India. In my locality, my Muslim and Christian friends also participate in these festivals. Similarly, Hindus and Sikhs also participate in Christmas and Eid. I have seen most of my Hindu friends wearing the Santa Clause cap during Christmas. Rath Yatra is mainly celebrated in Orissa. But in my locality, when people from Orissa take out the procession; everyone from the neighbourhood participate in that. Chhath is mainly celebrated in Bihar and Eastern UP. But in my locality, most of the people throng the venue of Chhath Puja.

What is the meaning of Movendar

Gaurav Seth 4 years, 9 months ago

Mauryan administration was centralised in nature with king as the sole authority of power .This is unlike modern day democratic system where administration is carried out through working of executive ,legislative and judiciary in close co-operation with each other. The administration today is highly decentralized with formation of panchayats ,gram sabhas etc
In judiciary the king was the supreme power he himself was the judge but in modern days judicial system is based on checks and balances where higher courts review function of lower courts and entire authority is not vested in one person.
Revenue system today is complex as earlier land was the major source of revenue during Mauryan times but today with coming up of industries ,advance trade there are many sources of revenue .

It is the study of the time period between the usage of stone tools and the invention of the writing system. Artifacts, Carvings on rocks etc are the sources of information while studying prehistory. Research on prehistory is carried out by archaeologists and anthropologists who use excavation, geology, molecular genetics, palaeontology etc. Hence a wide variety of social and natural sciences are used to study prehistory.

Yogita Ingle 4 years, 9 months ago

Dhamma is the Prakrit word for Sanskrit term Dharma.

Ashoka's dhamma was not related to the worship of any god or performance of sacrifice. He considered that it was his responsibility, just like a father has towards his children, to instruct the people of the empire so as to reduce conflicts among them. He was inspired by the teachings of the Buddha.
