In the northern part of the country, the village headman was known as the grama bhojaka.Usually, men from the same family held the position for generations. In other words, the post was hereditary. The grama bhojaka was often the largest landowner. Generally, he had slaves and hired workers to cultivate the land. Besides, as he was powerful, the king often used him to collec taxes from the village. He also functioned as a judge, and sometimes as a policeman. Apart from the gramabhojaka, there were other independent farmers, known as grihapatis, most of whom were smaller landowners. And then there were men and women such as the dasa karmakara, who did not own land, and had to earn a living working on the fields owned by others. In most villages there were also some crafts persons such as the blacksmith, potter, carpenter and weaver.

The panchayat samiti is composed of elected members of the area, and the Block Development Officer, otherwise unrepresented members (representatives of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes and women), associate members (such as a farmer of the area, a representative of the cooperative societies, and one from the agricultural marketing services sector), and the elected members of that panchayat block (tehsil) on the zila parishad (district board).
The samiti is elected for five years and is headed by a Block Pramukh(President) elected by the members of the panchayat samiti.

Ashoka was the third ruler of the Maurya dynasty and was one of the most powerful kings in ancient times. His reign between 273 BC and 232 B.C. in the history of India was one of the most prosperous periods. Ashoka was born to Mauryan King Bindusara and his queen Devi Dharma was the grandson of the founder emperor of the Maurya Dynasty, the great Chandragupta Maurya.
Ashoka also followed a religious policy wherein he formulated the policy of the Prakrit word, Dhamma coming from the Sanskrit term, Dharma. The excessive accumulation of Ashoka’s Dhamma consists of good teachings of different religions.

The Northern Indian Plains have been formed due to the depositional activities of the Himalayan Rivers. This is one of the most fertile plains in the world. The plain spread over an area of 7 lakh square km. The Northern Plains are 2400 km long and about 240-320 km broad. Since it is extremely fertile, it is one of the most densely populated regions in the world. Favourable climate and adequate water supply has made it agriculturally an extremely productive part of India. Rice and wheat are two main food crops which are mainly cultivated on the Northern Plains. On the basis of regional characteristics, the Northern Plains are divided in to:
- The Punjab Plains:The western part of the Northern Plains is referred to as the Punjab Plains
- The Ganga Plains: The Ganga Plains are called so as they are mainly drained by River Ganga and its tributaries
- The Brahmaputra Plains: The Brahmaputra Plains are drained by the river Brahmaputra and its tributaries. This plain mostly lies in the state of Assam.

In June 1941, Hitler attacked the Soviet Union. The German western front was exposed to British aerial bombing and the eastern front was crushed by the powerful Soviet Red Army at Stalingrad. Thus the Soviet established its leadership over entire Eastern Europe for the next 50 years. This was the historical blunder committed by Hitler.

The initial capital of Magadha was Rajghriha and later it was changed to Pataliputra. Magadha territory had a beneficial location as river Ganga and Son flowed through it, making it fertile throughout and providing water for both agriculture and other chores. Magadha also was surrounded with rich deposits of iron ore, used for making tools and weapons; dense forests, used to get high-quality wood for building houses, carts and chariots.
