    The functions of  the gramabhojaka are given below: 

    1. The gramabhojaka was the village headman.
    2. He had slaves and hired workers to cultivate the land.
    3. The kings even used him to collect taxes from the village.
    4. He even acted as a judge and sometimes as a village policeman.
    5. He was the largest landowner in the village and exercised many powers.

    Hence, he was very powerful in the village.
