The functions of the gramabhojaka are given below:
- The gramabhojaka was the village headman.
- He had slaves and hired workers to cultivate the land.
- The kings even used him to collect taxes from the village.
- He even acted as a judge and sometimes as a village policeman.
- He was the largest landowner in the village and exercised many powers.
Hence, he was very powerful in the village.
