Huge resources were required by the rulers of Mahajanapadas for building forts and maintaining large armies. Rajas of the janapadas depended on the occasional gifts brought by the people. So, instead of depending on these occasional gifts, the raja of the mahajanapadas imposed regular taxes on the people. Special officers were appointed to collect these taxes.

During spring and summer, more of every latitude in the hemisphere is on the sunny side of the Earth than the dark side due to the Earth's rotational axis with respect to the plane of its orbit. Since the rate of Earth's rotation is constant, that means every point on every altitude in the Hemisphere is on the sunny side of the Earth longer than it is on the dark side each day during spring and summer.

The earth is made up of land, water and air. These form three domains of the earth—the lithosphere, the hydrosphere, and the atmosphere. All these three domains combine to form the life-giving domain of the earth, called the Biosphere. The biosphere is the narrow zone of contact between land, water, and air where life exists.
