Torrid Temperate Frigid

Gaurav Seth 6 years, 8 months ago

Based on the heat received from the Sun, the Earth is divided into three heat zones. They are:

Torrid zone: It is a region between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn. This region receives the direct vertical rays of the Sun for almost the whole year. Therefore, this zone gets the maximum heat from the Sun. This zone is known as the torrid or the tropical zone.

Temperate Zone: This zone lie between the Tropic of Cancer and the Arctic Circle in the Northern Hemisphere and between the Tropic of Capricorn and the Antarctic Circle in the southern hemisphere. This zone gets the slanting rays of the Sun as the angle of the Sun’s rays goes on decreasing towards the Poles. Thus this zone experiences moderate temperature.

Frigid Zone:  The frigid zone lies between the Arctic Circle and the North Pole and between the Antarctic Circle and the South Pole. This zone is also known as the Polar region. Since it receives the extreme slanting rays of the Sun, the temperature is extremely low throughout the year. This is the reason why the polar regions are generally covered with ice.

Hunter-gathers around the world often migrate when food resources become scarce. At the same time, how far and how often hunter-gatherers need to move depends on the food resources—the available energy—in the local environment.

The indigo cultivators in Bengal were given loans but for that they had to grow indigo on at least 25 percent of the area under their holdings. The planters provided only seed and drill. The rest of works till the crops was harvested, was to be done by the ryots. The price the ryots got for their indigo, was very low. They had to take loans to repay their previous loans. Thus, the cycle of loan was never ending. The planters usually insisted that indigo should be cultivated on the best soils in which peasants preferred to cultivate rice. The indigo crops exhausted the soil rapidly. After an indigo harvest, the land could not be sown with rice. All these circumstances made the situation very grave and finally the indigo production collapsed in Bengal.

Historical sources tell us about history. It may be a document, a picture, a sound recording, a book, a cinema film, a television program or an object. Any sort of artifact that conveys information is a source. There are two main types of sources of history- primary and secondary sources.
A primary source provides direct or firsthand evidence about an event, object, person, or work of art. Travelogue, tools and pottery are some examples of primary sources.
A secondary source is a work that comments on the past. Typically this is a recently written book that describes past events, often written by a historian. Books, journals and newspapers are some examples of secondary sources.

Mesolithic:- It is the second period of stone age between Paleolithic and Neolithic. The start and end of the age vary by geographical region. It is a transition period from hunting and gathering as in Paleolithic to domestication as in Neolithic. The tools used were mode V chipped stone tools (microliths).

Neolithic:- It is the 3rd period of stone age and is often referred to as “New stone age”.  Its time period is considered to be around 10,200 BC to 4,500BC , which ended with  the beginning of “Bronze Age”. Only one human race (“homosapiens”) was found during this period. People lived in small tribes and were involved in domestication of animals. There is evidence of people living in permanent houses. There is also evidence of crop farming and cultivation during the period.
