The most striking feature of earth is the water. 75% of Earth’s surface is covered by water in both liquid and frozen state. So, the Earth is also called “watery planet”. Water is present everywhere on earth, from inside the planet's rocky crust to inside the cells of the human body. Land is occupied by only three-tenths of our globe. It is the presence of water due to which life is possible on earth.

- Early man petted animals by giving food near their places. The first animal to be petted was the wild dog.
- Then people protected the calm and timid animals that came near the places where they lived.
- These animals like goat, sheep, cow and pig lived in flocks and ate grass.
- People kept these animals to protect them from harms by other wild animals.
Thus the early men became herders.
