An object is said to be in motion (or moving) when its position changes with time. For example: When the position of a car changes with time, we say that the car is moving or that car is in motion. If an object is fairly fast, then its movement (or motion) can be observed easily.

Streamlined shape boat has also streamlined shape because it help to float and swim easily

Chhavi Parmar 4 years, 10 months ago

because of fins

Gaurav Seth 4 years, 10 months ago

The streamlined shape of the fish allows water to flow around it easily and help the fish to move in water. The skeleton of the fish is covered with strong muscles. During swimming, muscles make the front part of the body curve to one side and the tail part swings towards the opposite side. The fish forms a curve. Then, quickly, the body and tail curve to the other side. This makes a jerk and pushes the body forward. A series of such jerks make the fish swim ahead. This is helped by the fins of the tail.

Yogita Ingle 4 years, 10 months ago

Fishes have a streamlined body shape. This shape allows them to move easily in water. When a fish swims in water, the muscles that cover its skeleton cause the front part of the body to curve towards one side. On the other hand, the tail (with fins) curves towards the opposite side.

An electric cell is used to operate things such as the clocks, calculators, phones, etc. It is a small source of energy. It is also known as a pencil cell or dry cell. It converts chemical energy into electrical energy. A dry cell is a primary cell that is non-rechargeable and thus cannot be reused. These cells are used in a number of household gadgets like a radio, a transistor, a tape-recorder, a calculator, etc.

Construction

  • It consists of a zinc container with a small brass cap on one side of the cell which is labelled as positive (+) and a metal base at the other side of the cell which is labeled as negative (-).
  • The positive and negative sides of the cells are called as positive terminal and negative terminal of the cell respectively.
  • A carbon rod is placed at the centre of the cell surrounded by a mixture of manganese dioxide (MnO2) and charcoal (C) in a muslin bag.
  • The electrolyte is a moist paste of ammonium chloride (NH4CI), plaster of paris, flour, etc. and the outer body (except for the base) of a zinc container is insulated with a thick cardboard or plastic material.

Working

  • When the cell is connected to a bulb, the chemical reaction inside the cell becomes fast and the current starts flowing through the bulb. Hence, the bulb glows.
  • These dry cells are a small source of electricity.

Note:The dry cells actually are not dry. In fact, it works as long as the paste inside it remains moist. The presence of water (or moisture) helps in the movement of the ions within the cell from one electrode to the other.

?? lose very little water

Gaurav Seth 4 years, 10 months ago

Cactus lose very little water through transpiration. The leaves in cactus plants are present in the shape of spines. This helps in reducing loss of water from the leaves through transpiration. Its stem is converted into a leaf-like structure. Photosynthesis in these plants is usually carried out by the stems. The stem is also covered with a thick waxy layer, which helps to retain water. Cactus plants have roots that go very deep into the soil for absorbing water.

Shadow is a dark patch which forms when a opaque object blocks the path of light. We need a opaque object, a source of light and a screen where the shadow is to be formed.

Sandeep Verma 4 years, 10 months ago

Shadows are made by blocking light. Light rays travel from a source in straight lines. If an opaque (solid) object gets in the way, it stops light rays from traveling through it. This results in an area of darkness appearing behind the object.

Yogita Ingle 4 years, 10 months ago

Formation of shadows

When an opaque object is placed in path of light, a dark portion is formed on the opposite side of object on the screen. This dark portion is shadow.
(1) The size of shadow depends on the distance of source of light and on the angle at which the light rays fall on the object.
(2) If the source of light is closer to the object, a larger shadow is formed than when the source of light is far from the object.
(3) The shadow can be seen only on a screen. The ground, walls of the rooms, a building, or other such surfaces act as a screen for the shadows you observe in everyday life
(4) Shadows sometimes gives lot of information about the object.
(5) Shadows are in black in colour and this is not changed by the colour of the opaque objects. So a red and yellow rose will have same black shadows.

Autotrophs are organisms that undergo autotrophic mode of nutrition. These are the organisms that can prepare their own food from simple substances like carbon dioxide and water. All green plants are examples of autotrophs. These green plants contain chlorophyll pigment in the plant cell that helps in the synthesis of their own food by absorbing energy from the sunlight. All autotrophs are producers and are placed at the primary level in the food web.

The place where an organism lives is known as habitat. The term habitat is more specific environment. Habitat constitutes a part of the total environment of that region. It must offer to an organism shelter, food and congenial climatic conditions which will be well-suited for the organism to survive, reproduce and flourish. In other words, a place where suitable conditions for the existence of an organism prevail is the habitat of that organism. For example, the habitat of a fish may be a lake, pond, river, sea or other aquatic systems. The habitats of cacti and camel are sandy, dry, hot deserts. Snowbound, extremely cold Polar Regions are the natural habitats of polar bears. The habitat of Indian rhinoceros is grassland and forest area of the foothills of the Himalayas in Central Nepal and some pockets of plains of west Bengal and Assam. Red blood corpuscle of human blood is the habitat of the malarial parasite (plasmodium).

If we say that fishes live in water and monkeys live in forests, it would not be adequate. Freshwater fishes cannot live in sea water and vice versa. Bonnet monkeys and langurs are found only in the tropical forests of South India, Sri Lanka, Burma, Thailand, Malay, and Singapore. These forests offer to these monkeys a habitat with specific climate, woods, plants and other animals to interact with. The habitat of a tiger must have small animals for the tiger to hunt and feed upon. It should also include thick vegetation in the form of shady trees and shrubs where the tiger can hide and wait for its prey. These conditions form the biotic components of a habitat of tiger. Thus the Himalayan tiger can only live in the Himalayan forests and the Bengal tigers in the Sunderbans. These tigers cannot live in the rocky mountains of North-West America.
