Opaque objects form shadows because light is not able to bend around them.Shadows are seen more clearly on light screens. Whatever the colour of the object, its shadow is always black because it is not illuminated by light. The length and shape of a shadow depends on the object by which it is formed.

Height of the person = 1.65 m
1 m = 100 cm
1.65 m = 100 × 1.65 = 165 cm
Hence, the height of the person is 165 cm.
Again, 1 m = 100 cm = 1000 mm
Therefore, 1.65 m = 1.65 × 10 = 1650 mm
Hence, the height of the person is 1650 mm.

In our daily life we use a variety of methods to measure length like a hand-span, forearm-length or foot-step but these are not the same for all the persons. It varies from person to person. Thus, these are not the standard units of length. The length of foot, fist and width of finger were used in ancient times. For measurement we require a standard unit of measurement which does not change from person to person or place to place. For example – a standard unit of length is metre. It is necessary to have standard units of measurements for the sake of uniformity in measurements.
