Mercury is the only one in liquid state at room temperature. It's used in thermometers because it has high coefficient of expansion. It also has a high boiling point which makes it very suitable to measure higher temperatures. Mercury is a good conductor of heat. So mercury level indicates the temperature as quickly as possible and accurately. The texture does not stick to the surface.

Filtration: Filtration is a process by which insoluble solids can be removed from a liquid by using a filter paper.
A filter paper is a special type of paper which has pores that are tiny enough to let only liquids pass through it. If you pass a solution through filter paper, any undissolved solid particles will get left behind on the paper whereas the liquid will filter through
Example: A mixture of chalk powder and water can be separated by this method.

If we grow Opuntia cactus and do not water it for few days, it will remain green. This is because:
i. In desert plants, the spines or stems are modified to perform the function of photosynthesis.
ii. The stems of desert plants are modified for storing water. The stems are covered with a thick waxy layer called cuticle which prevents the loss of water from it.
