Light is a form of energy. It is required to see things around us. A source of light is an object which gives out light. All the sources of light can be divided into two groups – natural sources of light and man-made sources of light.
The sources of light which occur in nature as such are called natural sources of light. Example – sun and stars.
The sources of light which have been made by man are called man-made sources of light. Example – electric bulb, tube-light, torch, etc.

- The force with which an object is attracted towards the Earth is the weight (W) of the object. It is equal to the product of mass (m) and acceleration due to gravity (g).
W = mg
If we drop a stone from some height, it falls down towards the earth due to attraction between the earth and the stone. Such a force of attraction is called gravity. The earth attracts or pulls all the objects towards the centre. The force with which the earth pulls the objects towards it is called gravitational force of earth or gravity. Such a force of attraction or gravity is responsible for holding the atmosphere above the earth, rain falling on earth and flow of water in rivers.

The framework of bones and cartilage which gives shape and support to the body an animal is called skeleton. The human skeleton is made up of 206 bones. While the bones are hard, cartilages are soft. Cartilage is found between joints and in some elastic organs; like ear lobe and nose. Cartilage reduces friction between a joint.
Various organs of the skeletal system
Chest bone or Rib Cage: It forms a cone- shaped bony cage. The bones of the cage are called ribs. There are 12 pairs of the ribs. They attached to the vertebral column. The rib-cage protects the lungs and the heart.
Backbone or Vertebral Column: The vertebral column extends from the base of the skull to the hip. It consists of 33 small
Shoulder bone or Pectoral Girdle: The shoulder bone is formed by the collar bone and the shoulder blade. It is attached to the upper part of the rib-cage and to the upper arm bone.
Hip Bone or Pelvic Girdle: It is formed by the fusion of three bones, the hip bones and the tail parts of the backbone; to from a large bony bowl. The thigh bones are attached to the hip bone.
Skull: The skull is at the top of the vertebral column. It is composed of two main parts.
- Cranium: The cranium gives protection to the brain. The bones of the cranium are flat and are held firmly in a Zipper- like manner. The joints of the cranial bones are fused joints.
- Facial bones: These bones make the front and the lower part of the skull. The lower jaw bone or mandible is the only movable bone; which helps us to chew, eat and talk.

During the day, the land gets more heated up than the sea. Due to high temperature, an area of low pressure area is created over the land. Since the winds move from the high pressure to the low pressure areas, wind currents moves from sea to the land.
Similarly, during nights, while land cools down rapidly, sea is still warm (since water takes time in absorbing and releasing heat). Low pressure area is created over sea and high pressure area is created over the land. As already stated, winds move from the high pressure to the low pressure areas, wind currents moves from land to sea during nights.

Magnets were discovered by chance by an old shepherd named Magnes who lived in ancient Greece. Magnes used to take his herd of sheep and goats to a nearby mountain for grazing. He always took a wooden stick to manage his herd of sheep and goats which had an iron casing at its lower end. One day suddenly he felt that something was pulling his stick away from him. It appeared as if the stick was attracted by a rock and got stuck to it. He pulled hard to free the iron end of stick from the rock. This rock behaved like a magnet and was given the name ‘magnetite’.
The magnetite attracted pieces of iron towards itself. When a strip of magnetite was suspended from a thread so that it could rotate freely and aligned itself in the north-south direction.
