he salivary glands in mammals are exocrine glands that produce saliva through a system of ducts. Humans have three paired major salivary glands (parotid, submandibular, and sublingual) as well as hundreds of minor salivary glands. The salivary glands produce saliva, which keeps the mouth and other parts of the digestive system moist. It also helps break down carbohydrates (with salivary amylase, formerly known as ptyalin) and lubricates the passage of food down from the oro-pharynx to the esophagus to the stomach.

The various food items which we eat daily are usually made up of more than one material called ingredients. The ingredients of food contain components which are needed by our body for proper functioning, called nutrients. The five major nutrients of the food are carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins and minerals. In addition to these nutrients, water and roughage also form a major part of the food. All food items do not contain all major components of food. The presence of a particular component in a food item can be confirmed by performing various tests in the given sample of food.
Test for starch:
- Take a small quantity of food item to be tested.
- Add 2 to 3 drops of dilute iodine solution to the food with a dropper.
- If blue-black colour is produced, then starch is present in the given food.
Test for protein:
- Take 2 ml of the given food-stuff solution in a test tube.
- Add a little of dilute sodium hydroxide solution till the mixture clears.
- Then add 2 to 3 drops of copper sulphate solution and shake well.
- If a violet colour appears in the solution, then protein is present in the given food-stuff.
Test for fats:
- Take a small quantity of hard, solid food item and wrap it in a filter paper.
- Crush the food item carefully by using a small hammer and rub the crushed food on the paper.
- Remove the crushed food from the paper, and hold the paper towards a source a light.
- Presence of oily patches on the paper shows the presence of fats in the given food item.

- Oxygen is used for respiration of living organisms.
- The production of steel is reliant upon oxygen where it is used in a blast furnace to turn carbon into carbon dioxide, which reduces the iron oxides to pure iron.
- Oxygen is also used at plants that treat sewage or purify water. Oxygen is pumped through water to increase the production of natural bacteria, which break down waste products.
- Oxygen as a gas is required to produce energy in industrial processes, generators and ships and it is also used in airplanes and cars.
- As a liquid, oxygen is used widely both medically and industrially, most commonly as an oxidizing agent for use in missiles and rockets where it reacts with liquid hydrogen to produce the thrust for take-off.

A seed oil is a vegetable oil that is obtained from the seed (endosperm) of some plant, rather than the fruit (pericarp). Most vegetable oils are seed oils. Some common examples are sunflower oil, canola oil, and sesame oil. Peanut oil has a high content of monounsaturated fats and polyunsaturated fats that help lower bad cholesterol levels. It also contains natural antioxidants that protect the cells from disease-causing free radicals. It is rich in Vitamin E, which is good for the heart.
