A fraction is said to written using lowest termsif its numerator and denominator are relatively prime , that is, they have no common factorsother than 11 . (Some books use "simplest form" to mean the same thing.) So, 5959 is written in lowest terms, since 55 and 99have no common factors other than 11 . But 6969 is not; 66 and 99 have a common factor 33 . To write 6969 in lowest terms, divide both the numerator and denominator by the greatest common factor , in this case 33 : 6 ÷ 39 ÷ 3=236 ÷ 39 ÷ 3=23 So 6969 written in lowest terms is 2323 . This is known as reducing fractions
