The Golden ratio is a special number found by dividing a line into two parts so that the longer part divided by the smaller part is also equal to the whole length divided by the longer part. It is often symbolized using phi ({tex}\phi {/tex}), after the 21st letter of the Greek alphabet. In an equation form, it looks like this:

a/b = (a+b)/a = 1.6180339887498948420 …

Phi ({tex}\phi {/tex}) is usually rounded off to 1.618.

Let r and R be the radius of the inner and outer circle respectively.

Circumference of the inner circle = 44 m

{tex}2\pi r= 44{/tex}

{tex}=> 2\times {22\over 7}\times r = 44{/tex}

=> r = 7 m

Width of the road = 3.5 m

Radius of the outer circle R = 7 m + 3.5 m = 10.5 m

Area of the road = {tex}\pi (R^2-r^2){/tex}

{tex}= {22\over 7}[(10.5)^2-(7)^2]{/tex}

{tex}= {22\over 7}(10.5-7)(10.5+7){/tex}

{tex}= {22\over 7}\times 17.5\times 3.5{/tex}

= 192.5 m2

Rate of paving the road = Rs 50 / m2

Cost of paving the road = {tex}192.5\times 50 = {/tex}Rs. 9625
