The wells could have dried up because: Water is being pumped up from under the ground with the help of electric motors. The lakes in which rain water used to collect are no longer there. The soil around trees and parks is now covered with cement.

Rainwater which falls on roofs and terraces of buildings can be collected through pipes and stored in underground tanks or can be allowed to percolate into the soil and used to recharge the groundwater table. This is called water harvesting or rainwater harvesting. The main aim of rainwater harvesting is to check the runoff water.

Gaurav Seth 5 years, 2 months ago

Rainwater Harvesting

The activity of collecting rainwater directly and store it in big tanks for later use, or making the rainwater percolate into ground more efficiently to recharge the groundwater, is called rainwater harvesting.

The two main techniques of rainwater harvesting are:

1) Collection and storage of rainwater in tanks for future use when there is scarcity of water, and
2) To make rainwater percolate into the ground more efficiently by constructing percolation pits and recharge wells so as to recharge (or replenish) groundwater.

Rainwater harvesting can be done in two ways:

1) Rooftop rainwater harvesting, and
2) Rainwater harvesting from open spaces around buildings

Zika, dengue, chikungunya, and yellow fever are all transmitted to humans by the Aedes aegypti mosquito. More than half of the world's population live in areas where this mosquito species is present. Sustained mosquito control efforts are important to prevent outbreaks from these diseases.

The sequential process of eating and being eaten is called a food chain.

Grass → Grasshopper → Snake → Hawk → Fungi

  • All food chains begin with green plants or producers. Thus, the plants or producers constitute the first trophic level. Example: Grass
  • The herbivores or primary consumers that feed on plants constitute the second trophic level. Example: Grasshopper
  • The herbivores are next fed upon by the carnivores or secondary consumers. They constitute the third trophic level. Example: Snake
  • Finally, the large carnivores, also called the top carnivores or tertiary consumers, form the fourth trophic level. Example: Hawk
  • The large carnivores die and form the feed of decomposers. The decomposers feed on these dead animals and plants. Example: Fungi
  • There is a transfer of food from one organism to the other forming a chain.

The respiratory system is a biological system consisting of specific organs and structures used for gas exchange in animals and plants. The anatomy and physiology that make this happen varies greatly, depending on the size of the organism, the environment in which it lives and its evolutionary history.

Through breathing, inhalation and exhalation, the respiratory system facilitates the exchange of gases between the air and the blood and between the blood and the body's cells. The respiratory system also helps us to smell and create sound.

Shooting stars are also known as falling stars but they are not related to stars. A shooting star is a small piece of rock or dust that travels through the earth’s atmosphere. These are known as meteoroids. They glow is because of the speed at which they move through the atmosphere. Meteor is the trail of light that is produced during the burning. There are millions of such particles that cross over the earth’s atmosphere, but only a few collide with the earth’s atmosphere making them glow and burn down.
