Keerthi has Rs 20. Her shopping list includes
12kg potatoes, 2 kg pumpkins and
14kg carrots. Cost of
12kg potatoes = Rs 12 ÷ 2 = Rs 6 Cost of 2 kg pumpkins = Rs 2
×4 = Rs 8 Cost of
14kg carrots = Rs 16 ÷ 4 = Rs 4 Total cost of all vegetables = Rs 6 + Rs 8 + Rs 4 = Rs 18 Keerthi can purchase all the vegetables in her shopping list, as she has Rs 20.

1000 m = 1 km
(a) Now, 1 round of the stadium track = Length of the stadium track= 400 m
∴10 rounds of the stadium track = 10×400 m = 4000 m = (4000/1000) km = 4 km
(b) Total length of the marathon race = 40 km = 40×1000 m = 40000 m
Distance covered in 1 round of stadium track = 400 m
∴Number of rounds in 40000 m = 40000/400 = 100
So, if you run a marathon on a stadium track, you will have to complete 100 rounds

Fraction of a whole: When we divide a whole into equal parts, each part is a fraction of the whole.
Fraction of a collection: Fractions also represent parts of a set or collection.
For example,
There are total of 5 children.
3 out of 5 are girls. So, the fraction of girls is three-fifths ( 3⁄5 ).
2 out of 5 are boys. So, the fraction of boys is two-fifths ( 2⁄5 ).
