It is very energetically expensive for a tree to carry out photosynthesis in the winter, when there is often little sunlight and freezing temperatures make water transport (from the ground into the tree’s trunk and leaves) a problem. So it’s more energy efficient for a leafy tree to close down operations in the winter and go dormant.
During winter, light, heat, water and minerals become less available. The plants then begin to get rid of the leaves by discontinuing the flow of food to leaves. And once the supply of food to leaves is closed off, these leaves begin to change their colour and with the passage of time fall off.

Fish “hear” by picking up pressure changes and vibrations in the water through a lateral line (a system of thousands of tiny hair cells that run the length of a fish's body and work as a sensory organ) along each side of their body. The lateral line helps a fish to find and capture food and avoid enemies. Some bony fishes, such as anchovies (family Engraulidae) are filter feeders. They strain plankton from the water with gill rakers. Many bony fishes, including catfishes (Family Ictaluridae) are adapted for bottom feeding. A species' particular mouth shape and teeth are adapted to accommodate a particular diet.
