कवि को कोयल से इसलिए ईर्ष्या हो रही है क्योंकि कोयल स्वतंत्रतापूर्वक नीले आसमान में अपनी उड़ान भर रही है जबकि कवि का संसार दस फुट की कोठरी में सिमट कर रह गया है। जहाँ कोयल ने पेड़ की हरी-भरी डाली पर अपना घोंसला बनाया हुआ है वहीं कवि को काल कोठरी में रहना पड़ रहा है। कोयल को अपने गीतों पर प्रशंसा सुनने को मिलती है पर कवि का तो रोना भी गुनाह माना जाता है।
