Central Idea
In this poem Shakespeare points out that mercy is the greatest quality of human heart. It is natural. It pleases both, giver of it and receiver of it. It is greater than the crown of a king. When justice is mixed with mercy, it becomes a Divine quality. So it makes the kings immortal if they practise mercy in their justice.
