Let the cost of pencil=x Let the cost of eraser=y Given- 2x+3y=9 2x=9-3y x= (9-3y)/2 -------1 4x+8y=20 ---------2 By substituting equation 1 in 2, we get:- 4((9-3y)/2)+8y=20 2(9-3y)+8y=20 18-6y+8y=20 18+2y=20 2y=20-18 2y=2 y=2/2 y=1 By putting value of y in equation 1, we get:- x=(9-3(1))/2 x=(9-3)/2 x=6/2 x=3 So, the cost of pencil is ₹3 and the cost of eraser is ₹1.
