Working of it depends on the presence of lactose in medium. If lactose is present then it act as inducer and having higher affinity to bind with inhibitor protein as comparison to operator. Due to which transcription and translation occur. But in absence of lactose process is inhibited. So lac Operon is known as inducible system of bacterial cell.
