Mendel's Law of Segregation states that every organism has two alleles per trait and that these alleles separate during meiosis, so each gamete gets one allele.

The Law of Segregation says that organisms have two copies of every gene and that they get one copy of each gene from each parent. It is one of Gregor Mendel's laws of inheritance. This is closely tied to the Law of Independent Assortment, which says that during gamete formation, genes for different traits segregate independently of each other.
