Fish are slightly more denser than the water in which they swim. They are almost neutrally buoyant causing it to float. As we know pressure increases with water depth causing counteract fluctuations by using bladder present in fish. The amount of oxygen in the bladder determines the fish buoyancy. When the fish decompose after death if oxygen remains in the bladder it floats and if water then they sink until the gases build.
