Four major problems faced by cotton textile mills in India.
- The yarn in India is produced by small industries and units which largely cater to local markets. Thus, while many spinners export cotton yarn, many garment manufacturers have to import fabric. Therefore, there is a mismatch between the two.
- Most of the machinery installed in cotton mills are outdated and need to be replaced.
- Irregular power supply has hampered production.
- The cotton industry is facing tough competition from the fibre industry.

Resource planning is a technique or skill of proper utilisation of resources. As the resources are limited and unevenly distributed over the country their planning is essential. Resource planning comprises three stages:
(i) Preparation of inventory of resources.
(ii) Evaluation in terms of availability for development.
(iii) Planning for exploitation of resources
• The first stage includes surveying, mapping and measurement of characteristics and properties of resources.
• The second stage examines resources from the points of view of technology, economy and need.
• The third stage is related to action-oriented planning which emphasises use and reuse of the sources.

Causes of Unemployment:
(i) Insufficient economic development : It is true that under the planned development millions of new jobs were created but the number of job lookers was much more than those jobs. Thus many people still remained unemployed in India.
(ii) Defective system of education : In oureducational system there is lack of training facilities, lack of vocational and professional guidance.
(iii) Slow growth of industrialisation : Slow growth of industrialisation in the country is yet another cause of unemployment in the urban areas.
Measures to Reduce Unemployment:
(i) Integrated Dry Land Agricultural Development :
Under this scheme, permanent works like soil conservation, development of land and water harvesting are undertaken.
(ii) National Rural Employment Programme - This programme aims at creating community assets for strengthening rural infrastructure like drinking water wells, community irrigation wells, village tanks, rural roads and schools.

Focal length f = 10 cm
Object distance u = -15 cm
Image distance v= ?
The lens formula is 1/f = 1/v - 1/u
1/v = 1/u + 1/f
1/v = 1/-15 + 1/10
1/v = -2+3/30
1/v = 1/30 or v = 30
The positive sign of v shows that the image is formed at a distance of 30 cm on the other side of optical centre. The image is real and inverted.
