The story 'Best Christmas Present in the World' has beautifully depicted the moral lesson. It conveys that war and fight only bring sadness and humiliation all around the world. One should generally follow the path of peace for attaining happiness in the world. This would be the best Christmas gift of course.

examples of “the logic of geography”?

(i) There are cities where there are rivers.

(ii) It is easy to understand why valleys are populated.

(iii) It is difficult to understand why humans hate and kill one another.

As the plane attained another six miles, it became amply clear that the earth was round and there was more water than land. However, the logic of geography failed to answer one question. The speaker was unable to understand why people hate and kill each other. Why was there a need to build walls across the cities. Even from that height, the causes behind human hatred remained unclear.

Because of Earth quake

Meghna Thapar 5 years, 3 months ago

When earthquakes occur on areas with steep slopes, many times the soil slips causing landslides. Furthermore, ashen debris flows caused by earthquakes can also trigger mass movement of soil. Heavy Rainfall: When sloped areas become completely saturated by heavy rainfall many times landslides can occur. Tsunamis are large, potentially deadly and destructive sea waves, most of which are formed as a result of submarine earthquakes. They can also result from the eruption or collapse of island or coastal volcanoes and from giant landslides on marine margins. These landslides, in turn, are often triggered by earthquakes. Tsunamis can be generated on impact as a rapidly moving landslide mass enters the water or as water displaces behind and ahead of a rapidly moving underwater landslide.

Clauses are divided:

  • Main clause (also called independent clause)
  • Subordinate clause (also called dependent clauses).

“Main (or independent) clause is a clause that expresses a complete thought and can stand as a sentence.

He met the man who had helped him.
Roshini is wearing a white shirt which looks very nice.
The teacher asked a question but no one answered.

A Subordinate clause does not express complete idea and can’t stand as a sentence. A sentence having a subordinate clause must have a main clause.

Example:
He likes Chinese rice which tastes good.
He met the man who had helped him.
Roshini is wearing a white shirt which looks very nice.
The teacher asked a question but no one answered.

25 December, 1919
Its Christmas today, but the town looks changed. Everything has changed. The buildings, the houses, the shops that were standing a year back have no traces now. Instead there is only debris, rocks and soil. I can't find my family, my neighbours, my friends. Have they become the prey of this war? Today, on Christmas, I have no one to share my happiness. My family, my wife, my son is dead. The war destroys not only the families, religion, society but also humanity. Man has become so mean that he finds no importance to life in front of his profits and selfishness. Why do we have wars?

Dear Aashu
Today, I want to share an incident that is upsetting me day and night. Few days back, I purchased a roll-top desk from a junk shop. In its drawer, I found a letter addressed to Mrs Macpherson written by her husband Jim, who was an army officer and fought the war against Germany during the First World War. In that letter he has described an incident that happened on the Christmas morning. The Germans invited the Britishers for the Christmas party on the no man's land during the war. All the soldiers from both the armies enjoyed the party and played football. All longed for the end of war and to go home. This letter had a strip pasted on the envelope written by Mrs Macpherson which said, "Jim's last letter, received January 25, 1915. To be buried with me when the time comes". These lines compelled me to search Mrs Macpherson and to return the letter. I went to the given address and found that she now lives in Burlington House nursing home and is 101 years old. I went there and handed over the letter to her. It was the Christmas morning that eyes lit up with happiness and she looked at me back. She kissed my cheek, asked me to sit near her, offered me tea and Christmas cake which couldn't say anything. Now I am in a state of disappoint the lady that her husband is dead or has come back as he had promised in the letter. I fear if I disclose my identity she will definitely die of shock and disappointment. And if I don't then I would live in guilt. What should I do? Please suggest me.

Your friend
Jim
