Lencho is the main character of the story “The Letter to God.” He is a poor farmer who is the sole bread-earner of the family. He had faith in God. Lencho lived in a small house which was situated on the crest of a low hill in the valley. Throughout the morning Lencho sat in his house and waited for the rain to come. He wished for the rain or the shower for his field in which he had grown his crops. Lencho wrote the letter to God as he thought that he would be the only one to help him in his bad times. He wrote a letter addressing to God to send him 100 pesos so that he and his family can survive in such a difficult situation.

The Common Man’s Woes During Monsoons -by Smita
Rain, rain go away- Come again another day. This little childhood rhyme was the prevalent mood of most of the people of the major metropolitan cities of India Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai. The monsoon fury was so extensive that it led to heavy losses of material and also more importantly the loss of human lives. It was unprecedented and unexpected.
There was an extensive loss of life and property. People were stranded in their own homes and could not move out for couple of days. The civic system came to a halt. Phone lines were disconnected and electricity lines were snapped.
Life came to a standstill in busy commercial capitals like Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata. People of all strata of life suffered. However, the most affected were the poor people who felt the brunt of it. Most of them are daily wage earners but they could not go to work because of the weather conditions. The children and families went hungry for many days. Rations were not given immediately to the people. The floods brought to light the inadequate civic amenities. It led to an outbreak of diseases. It is high time that the authorities wake up and remedial measures are taken. Prior steps should be taken to repair the roadways, waterways and all sewage systems. The officers should be held more responsible and the poor should be evacuated immediately. Rations and aid must reach them quickly.

The poem ‘Warned’ was written by Sylvia Stults. The author is concerned about the pollution caused by humans and its adverse effects on Earth and all the living being of the Earth.
“Trees towered high above
Trunks baring professed love”
These lines describe the beauty of trees. The author means that the trees were so tall and the branches of the trees which were like huge trunks showed professed to love.
There were so many trees, as much as we couldn’t find the birds but just heard the sound of the birds chirping. Now, the trees are all polluted or cut down in the name of various uses for humans.
