If the father's blood group is O, he has the genotype IOIO or (ii) . The mother has blood type AB, which means that her genotype would be IAIB. The possible combinations of these two groups would result in children having genotypes IAIO or IBIO, which would give them blood groups A or B respectively.

No it is not possible for the child to have AB since niether parents carry AB nor B. The new born is mostly to have A blood group as A is a dominant gene, though it is less likely for the new born to have O blood group since it's a recessive gene but it is possible in very few cases that O boold group is taken by the new born.
