The sufferings of the poor people were as follows: 1. The first suffering was of the seamstress..Her son was ill and wanted oranges but she did not have enough money to buy him oranges so after seeing her misery the happy prince requested the swallow to go to her house and give her his ruby in order to help her. 2. Then the happy prince saw a playwriter who was quite young. He had to write the play for the director but he was not able to write bcoz he was hungry and was feeling too cold nd he did not have the money to make fire so, in order to help him the happy prince sent one sapphire to him.. 3. Then the happy prince wanted to help the little girl who was having the matchsticks but by mistake, she has let her matches fall into the 'gutter'. So, she was scared that her father may scold her or beat her..That's the reason, the happy prince helped her by giving his second sapphire to her.. 4. The happy prince requested the swallow to flew over the great city and tell him what he saw there..So the swallow agreed and flew over the city..The swallow had seen the rich men making merry in their beautiful houses..While the beggars were sitting at the gates..He also saw the white faces of the starving children looking out listlessly at the black streets. Under the archway of the bridge, two little boys were lying in each other's arms and were trying to keep themselves warm. Then, in order to help them the happy prince said to swallow that he should put off the leaves of gold from the Prince's body and give it to them by that they will sell and will make some money.. Hence, this is how the happy prince described the sufferings of the people and also helped them by sacrificing his all..the swallow also plays the crucial role in this story.
